In 1870 a group of concerned people built a Baptist church in the little hamlet of Chemung, New York. Many people came and heard the Word of God proclaimed; hymns of the faith were sung; and the down-trodden were encouraged. Today, almost 150 years later, the Word of God is still being proclaimed; songs of the faith are still being sung; and people in the Valley are still being encouraged.
The Baptist congregation occupied the building for many, many years. But after sitting empty for a few years, a new congregation, Chemung Christian Fellowship, purchased the building in 2008. It quickly became apparent that the original building would not accommodate a growing congregation. To better minister to current and future members, Chemung Christian Fellowship broke ground on an addition in the spring of 2010. The addition added more classroom space; improved the bathroom facilities; and made the building more accessible for all. The building was purchased for $75,000 and paid off in a year and a half. The addition required a loan of $217,000, which was paid off in two years and three months. Chemung Christian Fellowship is now debt free. The mission of the church is to help people become spiritually debt free as well.
Pastor Randy Stilson came to Chemung Christian Fellowship in 2008 after serving as assistant pastor in another area church. Pastor Zach Miller joined Chemung Christian Fellowship in November 2014 to serve as youth director and worship leader.
Chemung Christian Fellowship draws people, not only from the Chemung area, but from Waverly, NY, Sayre, PA, and Athens, PA.
Chemung Christian Fellowship exists to point people to a saving faith knowledge of Jesus Christ and to help people mature in their Christian faith. Chemung Christian Fellowship endeavors to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, not only in this community, but worldwide.
